NIST, Boulder, Colorado, 2009

Mark and I wanted to spend Monday at NIST, to check in with Tom Crowley regarding the calibration of Mark's FinCat sensor, and to generally swap notes with Dylan, Kate and Paul, and so that Mark could see a little of their part of NIST. The nearby hotel had no twin rooms left, so I was lucky enough to stay with Dylan and Kate at Arnett-Fullen House.

This fabulous netional-trust house is being renovated meticulously and with technology over and above the call of duty by Dylan and Kate. This photo shows the new stove. Note the electric kettle that Kate is holding, and that powers up when stood on the appropriate plate of the stove! Other wonders include concealed toasters and dishwashers, so that a modern kitchen looks perfect period.

Herewith also Dylan and his safe. Note the bathroom in the background. When first built, this internal bathroom was the latest modern innovation.

We walked around historic and beautiful Boulder.

This is a view of Boulder from the hills behind, the start of the Rockies. You could find the tower of Arnett-Fullen House, if you know to look above the large yellowish building immediately to the right of the tower holding the microwave dish (right click and view to get full resolution).

We experimented with Kay's new Nikon S620. It takes a picture automatically when you smile, This was its first automatic picture!

I soon got used to that function.

I was privelidged to see an annual tradition, the Boulder Nude Bicyclists, although some American tightarsedness resulted in them having to wear undies this year for fear of being prosecuted by people with suspect morals.

A good place to stay!
